SAG Awards 2022 : 'Succession' Star Brian Cox Speaks Out on Ukraine Crisis

The Screen Actors Guild Awards 2022 were held on February 27 and drew a who's who of the performing profession as the best of television and film were honoured. Following Succession's win for Drama Series Ensemble, actor Brian Cox delivered an impassioned acceptance speech in which he talked in support of Ukraine and condemned Russia's invasion.
After accepting the award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance in a Drama Series, the show's lead star, Brian Cox, called attention to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, specifically speaking out in support of Russian artists who have been silenced from speaking out in support of Ukraine due to treason threats.
Cox also praised Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has worked as an actor and comedian. Cox stated in his remarks, "It's just terrible. It's very bad in terms of [how] it's harming individuals, especially in our field. Ukraine's President [Volodymyr Zelensky] was a comic. He was a fantastic comedy performer. That is something we must respect. It was an incredible experience to be elected to the presidency. But what has really bothered me is what is happening in Russia to my colleagues actors, actresses, performers, authors, and critics. They are instructed that they must not speak about Ukraine under penalty of high treason. That's terrible, in my opinion."
The Succession star then urged everyone to unite in support of those in Ukraine. Among the other victors who expressed their support for Ukraine was actor Michael Keaton, who stated that "fellow actor" Zelenskyy deserved respect for fighting for his nation.
