BJP Disputes Claims of Receiving Letter on Prajwal Revanna Alleged Videos

In the unfolding scandal surrounding Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna, BJP's Karnataka State President Vijayendra Yediyurappa has denied receiving any communication about the alleged videos implicating Revanna in sexual abuse. Reports have emerged suggesting that another BJP leader, Devaraje Gowda, claimed to have informed Yediyurappa about the scandal through a letter. However, Yediyurappa dismissed these claims as false.

Revanna, an MP representing Hassan and a prominent figure within JDS, has become embroiled in controversy amid allegations of sexual abuse and the filming of such acts. These accusations have caused a rift within the political landscape, particularly as JDS has formed an alliance with the BJP for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Karnataka.

Yediyurappa took to his official social media platform to address the issue, firmly denying Gowda's assertion and stating that he had not received any such communication nor was he aware of the alleged videos.

In previous statements, Gowda expressed concerns about a communication gap within the party regarding the scandal. He claimed to have written a letter to Yediyurappa outlining the allegations against Revanna, including claims of harassment made by an individual named Karthik, who alleged possession of obscene videos involving Revanna. However, Yediyurappa maintained that no such letter reached him, further complicating the matter.

Additionally, Yediyurappa criticized Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for allegedly withholding information about the case until closer to the general elections. He questioned the timing of the revelations, suggesting that the delay in initiating investigations was politically motivated. Yediyurappa urged the Congress government to provide explanations for their actions, accusing them of engaging in political theatrics.

As the controversy continues, Revanna has been suspended from JD(S) following the emergence of the allegations. The case, registered on April 28, is currently under investigation by a Special Investigation Team appointed by the Karnataka government. The SIT, led by IPS officers Vijay Kumar Singh, Suman D Pennekar, and Seema Latkar, is investigating the complaints filed by Revanna's former housekeeper.

Revanna faces charges under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC related to sexual harassment, intimidation, and outraging the dignity of a woman. The case remains ongoing, with further developments expected as the investigation progresses.
