Karnataka BJP Calls Statewide Bandh Over Neha Hiremath Murder

Amidst growing outrage over the tragic murder of Neha Hiremath, daughter of a Congress corporator, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers took to the streets in Mysuru, Dharwad, and Hubbali districts on Monday. They staged protests demanding justice for the slain activist and urged for the case to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The BJP has intensified its calls for capital punishment for the accused, alleging a failure of law and order under the Congress-led state government.

The BJP has raised concerns about 'Love Jihad' in connection with Neha Hiremath's murder, further intensifying the political discourse surrounding the incident. Fayaz Khondunaik, the accused, has been apprehended, prompting BJP national president J P Nadda to demand a CBI investigation into the case.

In a separate development, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai and BJP Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya held a joint rally in Bengaluru, aiming to bolster support for the saffron party in the state. The campaign included discussions on the performance of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

BJP units in Hubballi and Dharwad cities also staged protests condemning Neha Hiremath's killing and echoed the demand for a CBI probe and stringent punishment for the perpetrator.

Neha Hiremath, a 21-year-old student and the daughter of Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) corporator Niranjan Hiremath, was fatally stabbed by her former classmate on the campus of KLE Technological University on April 18. The swift arrest of the accused, who was produced before the magistrate and remanded to 14-day judicial custody, has not pacified the public outcry for justice.

Addressing the ongoing investigation, Home Minister G Parameshwara assured that the police are diligently pursuing leads and exploring any possible accomplices in the crime. He dismissed attempts to politicize the issue, highlighting social media campaigns advocating justice for Neha as evidence of politicization.

Parameshwara emphasized that the focus remains on ensuring swift and fair justice for the victim and her family. He urged all parties to refrain from exploiting the tragedy for political gain, emphasizing the importance of upholding the law impartially.

As investigations continue and political tensions escalate, the fate of Neha Hiremath's case remains at the forefront of public attention, reflecting broader concerns about safety and justice in Karnataka.
