Only Sale of Green Crackers Allowed for Diwali, Announces District Commissioner

In an effort to prioritize environmental concerns and public health, the District Commissioner has issued an official directive allowing the sale of only "green crackers" for this year's Diwali celebrations.

As the festive season approaches, authorities are keen to address the escalating issue of air pollution associated with the bursting of conventional fireworks during Diwali. Green crackers, which are designed to be less harmful to the environment and produce fewer emissions, have gained significant attention in recent years as a more sustainable alternative.

Under the directive, the sale and use of traditional firecrackers, which are known for their high emissions and noise levels, will be strictly prohibited. Instead, individuals are encouraged to choose from a range of approved green crackers that meet specific environmental standards.

These green crackers are formulated with a reduced level of hazardous chemicals, resulting in lower emissions of particulate matter and harmful gases such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Additionally, they are designed to produce less noise, mitigating the adverse effects on public health and the well-being of animals.

The move to promote green crackers aligns with a broader global trend of encouraging eco-friendly and sustainable practices. Diwali, one of the most widely celebrated festivals in the region, offers an ideal opportunity to address the environmental consequences of traditional firework usage.

Several measures have been put in place to facilitate the availability of green crackers to the public. Licensed vendors will exclusively sell these environmentally friendly fireworks in designated areas. These vendors will be monitored to ensure compliance with the directive and to prevent any unauthorized sales of traditional firecrackers.

The public is encouraged to participate in this eco-friendly Diwali celebration and to prioritize the health of both the environment and the community. Public awareness campaigns are expected to be launched to educate citizens about the benefits of green crackers and the importance of adhering to the directive.

This proactive measure underscores the commitment of the local authorities to address the issue of air pollution, particularly during festivals like Diwali. By promoting green crackers, the District Commissioner aims to create a safer and more environmentally responsible way to celebrate the festival of lights.
