High Court Cancels Bengal Teacher Recruitment, Trinamool Faces Setback

The Calcutta High Court delivers a blow to the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool government, annulling the 2016 teacher recruitment process in government-sponsored and aided schools. Over 25,000 appointed teachers instructed to refund salaries with interest, amid further investigations and fresh appointments ordered.

A division bench of Justices Debangsu Basak and Md Shabbar Rashidi declares the recruitment illegal, demanding salary returns within four weeks. Exceptions made for special cases, such as Soma Das undergoing cancer treatment, while the CBI is tasked to delve deeper into the process.

West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) instructed to initiate a new recruitment drive, with its chairman vowing to contest the High Court's decision in the Supreme Court.

The ruling adds to Trinamool's woes, with leaders like Partha Chatterjee facing legal consequences. Mamata Banerjee alleges BJP's influence on judiciary, amidst political backlash.

BJP Bengal capitalizes on the verdict, aiming to weaken Trinamool's hold, while candidates await justice after a tumultuous legal battle.

The High Court's move follows previous dismissals and controversies surrounding teacher recruitments, adding to the political turmoil in West Bengal.

Abhijit Ganguly's resignation, subsequent political affiliations, and judicial orders underscore the intertwined nature of law and politics in the state.

Supreme Court's intervention provides temporary relief, highlighting the complex dynamics of legal battles and political ramifications in Bengal's education sector.
