Pakistan Airstrikes in Afghanistan Spark Controversy

Pakistan conducted "intelligence-based" airstrikes in Afghanistan, resulting in eight deaths. The Pakistani army claimed the casualties were militants, but the Taliban disputes this, alleging civilian casualties.The airstrikes targeted suspected hideouts of the Pakistani Taliban in North Waziristan District. Pakistan's security forces conducted the operation after reports of terrorist presence.

The Taliban claims that Pakistani aircraft bombed civilian homes in Khost and Paktika provinces, resulting in the deaths of women and children. Taliban spokesperson Mujahid condemns the attacks as violations of Afghanistani territory and warns of dire consequences. The airstrikes come after the killing of seven Pakistani soldiers in North Waziristan, prompting President Asif Ali Zardari to vow retaliation.

Pakistan accuses the Hafiz Gul Bahadar group, operating from Afghanistan, of responsibility for the deadly attack. Pakistan's Special Representative to Afghanistan estimates thousands of militants, including families, have sought refuge in Afghanistan.

Despite hopes that the Afghan Taliban's rise to power would lead to action against TTP operatives, Pakistan criticizes Kabul for inaction. Cross-border clashes reported in Kurram District's Parachinar, prompting evacuations on both sides. The TTP, with ideological linkages to the Afghan Taliban, aims to impose strict Islam across Pakistan.
