PM Modi carries mother Smt. Heeraben Modi’s mortal remains to cremation

Even as word leaders expressed their sadness and solidarity on the passing away of PM Narendra Modi’s mother, PM Narendra Modi on Friday performed the last rites of his mother Heeraben Modi in Gandhinagar. The Prime minister who had reached Gandhinagar early this morning, consigned the mortal remains of his mother Heeraben Modi to fire along with his brothers.

Smt. Heeraben Modi, 100, passed away at around 3:30 am today at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad, according to a bulletin from the hospital.

She was hospitalised on Wednesday after her health deteriorated. PM Modi's brother Somabhai Modi and other family members were also present at the residence of Smt. Heeraben Modi.

Life of Late Smt. Heeraben Modi.

Smt. Heeraben Modi was born in Visnagar, Mehsana, Gujarat on June 18. She was married to a tea vendor named Damodardas Mulchand Modi where they stayed in the Raysan village neighbourhood of Gandhinagar with Pankaj Modi, the Prime Minister's younger brother.

According to the prime minister Narendra Modi's blog post, his mother’s childhood was “extremely difficult." He mentioned Heeraben Modi's hardships and sacrifices throughout the years. He also informed earlier that Heeraben had lost her mother as a result of the Spanish Flu outbreak.

As her son the PM, saw the penance, sacrifice, and contribution of India's maternal force in the life story of his mother. He discovered that nothing was out of reach for Indian women when he looked at his mother and the millions of other women who are just like her.

“In Maa I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values," Prime Minister Modi wrote while remembering her advice from the time when he had met her on her 100th birthday: “Work with intelligence, live life with purity".

We wish God gives strength to the Modi family during this time of sadness.
