Indian Women suffer 3-wicket defeat to NZ in 3rd ODI, lose series

The Indian women's team, captained by Mithali Raj, lost the third One-Day International to New Zealand by three wickets on Friday. As India failed to defend an intimidating total of 279. New Zealand women achieved the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history.
After losing the lone T20I by 18 runs, India lost the first two ODIs by 62 runs and three wickets, respectively.
After sitting out the second ODI, Jhulan Goswami once again led the bowling pack. She took three New Zealand wickets at the top of the order to derail the host side's 280-run chase. When India reduced New Zealand to 171 for 6 in the 35th over, they appeared to be on their way to their first win of the tour, but they were unable to do so as Lauren Down (65 not out) guided the hosts to victory with five balls to spare.
India was given the opportunity to bat first after New Zealand won the toss. Meghana (61) and Verma (51) got India off to a fast start with a 100-run stand in 13 overs, but India lost wickets at regular intervals after that and were all out for 279 in 49.3 overs.

In response, New Zealand got off to a shaky start, conceding two early wickets. Amy and Amelia Karr then put up a 103-run middle-infield alliance to help their team win the game. The Indian bowling staff failed to trouble the opposition batters for the second game in a row.
"We didn't get the middle-order partnerships we needed, but Deepti took us to 280," Mithali Raj said after the match. The batting lineup has performed admirably in every game this season. It's close, but there are certain things we can work on in the field."

As she was released from quarantine on Tuesday, star opener Smriti Mandhana was unable to play in the match — her fourth of the tour, including the lone T20I.
