Army team reaches trapped Kerala trekker R Babu, likely to be airlifted

Twenty-three-year-old R Babu, along with three of his friends, trekked the hill in Malampuzha in Kerala's Palakkad district on Monday and was involved in the accident later that evening. He is trapped there since then and the state government has sought the help of the Indian Army to rescue him. On Tuesday morning, an Indian Army rescue team arrived at the location of Kerala trekker R Babu, who has been trapped in a hill cleft in Malampuzha village in the state's Palakkad district since Monday. Army officers said they crawled for four hours to reach the 23-year-old.

He was given some water and will most likely be taken to the hilltop because the descent is difficult. The rescue operation, one of the largest in recent memory, also includes Navy and National Disaster Response Force personnel (NDRF).

The rescue operation, which had been halted on Tuesday, was restarted on Wednesday morning. According to the trekker's friends, he fell into an opening on the hill due to exhaustion while attempting to descend the rocks.

Here are the latest on this massive rescue effort:

• According to army officials, reaching the top of the Kurumpachi Mala hill will take at least two hours. Mrunmai Joshi, the district collector of Palakkad, stated that a medical team has been prepared.

• Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the 23-year-health old's is satisfactory and that he will be rescued at any time. Babu's mother and brother are camped close to the base camp.

• While trekking to the cleft to bring Babu down to safety, rescuers said they came across three bears.

• The Indian Army's mountaineering team is helping with the rescue effort. The rescue teams made contact with Babu 48 hours after the operation began.
• Babu was hurt when he fell into an opening in the hill as it was descending. According to a police officer, he later sent selfies and photographs of the location where he was trapped on Chad hill.

• His friends, who were able to safely descend the hill after abandoning the trek halfway due to the accident, said he initially responded to their calls, but they couldn't find him in the mountain crevice.

• Navy helicopters arrived at the scene on Tuesday and flew several sorties but were unable to evacuate him due to the treacherous terrain.

• A Coast Guard helicopter pilot also attempted to hover near the ridge where Babu is stranded, but the mission was aborted due to "topography of terrain the helicopter experienced heavy downdraft," according to the force.
• Attempts to send food and water have also failed, and authorities are attempting to keep wild animals at bay by lighting flambeaus.
