India Honored as 'Measles and Rubella Champion' for Remarkable Efforts

India has been conferred with the esteemed 'Measles and Rubella Champion' Award, a recognition of the extraordinary efforts undertaken by the Health Ministry in combating these infectious diseases. The accolade was presented by The Measles and Rubella Partnership at the American Red Cross Headquarters in Washington D.C., USA on March 6th, 2024. Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Washington D.C., accepted the award on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Measles and Rubella Partnership is a collaborative planning committee comprising key organizations such as the American Red Cross, GAVI, US, BMGF, CDC UNICEF, UNF, and WHO. The partnership is dedicated to reducing global measles-related deaths and preventing the spread of rubella.

Notably, approximately 50 districts in India have reported zero measles cases, and 226 districts have seen no reported rubella cases over the past 12 months.
