Since crocodile has been important for the legend of Sree Ananthapadmanabha Swamy Sanctuary at Kumbla in Kasaragod locale, Babiya was given a stylized entombment with all requests conceived for the last ceremonies of a Hindu 'sanyasi'. Before the entombment, Babiya's body was saved in a versatile cooler for a few hours to empower the enthusiasts to give recognition to the 'heavenly soul'. "We had the ceremonies and petitions to heaven related with the entombment of a Hindu swamiji. The body was brought down to the pit close to the sanctuary. In future, enthusiasts can come and ask at the 'samadhi','' said sanctuary trust board director Udaya Kumar. Prior, Babiya had stirred things up around town after lovers guaranteed that it was a vegan crocodile and ultimately achieved a heavenly status after it was seen consuming the contributions at the sanctuary (rice and jaggery). We don't guarantee that the crocodile was completely vegan. Notwithstanding, it used to consume the contributions of the sanctuary,'' Udaya Kumar said.
Mourning Babiya's passing, Association Priest of State for Horticulture and Ranchers' Government assistance Shoba Karandlaje tweeted: "Babiya, the God's own crocodile of Sri Ananthapura Lake sanctuary has arrived at Vishnu Padam. The heavenly crocodile lived in the sanctuary's lake for north of 70 years by eating the rice and jaggery prasadam of Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy and watched the sanctuary.'' The crocodile was never known to have turned rough or gone after an enthusiast. It lived in the sanctuary lake alongside fish. Two years back, it was spotted on the means of the sanctuary's sanctum sanctorum. There are no records at the sanctuary to show how this crocodile arrived at the sanctuary lake even as there is no stream or some other water body nearby. Sanctuary legend says an English fighter had shot a crocodile at the hallowed place in 1945 and inside a couple of days another showed up. Thus, Babiya was accepted to be in its 70s. The sanctuary trust board executive said no one knows when and why the male crocodile was given the name Babiya. One more rendition about the presence of the crocodile is that the exceptionally old sanctuary, which is arranged in a lake, had a gigantic load of resources. To deter hoodlums or foes from looting the riches, the sanctuary specialists had raised a crocodile in the lake. Previously, one could arrive at the sanctuary solely after crossing the lake. Afterward, an extension was developed over the lake up to the sanctuary.
