PM's Grand Roadshow in Gujarat follows the BJP's resounding election victories

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gujarat today to a rousing welcome, a day after winning a landslide victory in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and retaining power in three other states. On a two-day visit to his home state, the Prime Minister will take part in a number of formal activities. This evening, he will speak at the Gujarat Panchayat Mahasammelan, which will be attended by nearly one lakh representatives from the state's three levels of Panchayati Raj institutions.
PM Modi nodded to the hundreds of followers and admirers who gathered by the roadside as his roadshow began from the airport to Kamalam, the BJP's state headquarters in Gandhinagar, riding in an open vehicle decked with floral garlands. The airport is about 10 kilometres from Kamalam.
PM Modi was flanked in the car by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state BJP president CR Patil.
Gujarat will hold assembly elections at the end of this year, though the dates have not yet been declared.

At 11 a.m. tomorrow, the Prime Minister will dedicate the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) building to the nation. As the Chief Guest, he will also deliver the RRU's inaugural Convocation address. According to a press statement from his office, he will proclaim open the 11th Khel Mahakumbh at 6:30 p.m. on March 12 and deliver a speech on the occasion.
His tour comes just a day after the BJP won four out of five states, including Uttar Pradesh, which is politically crucial. The BJP also won in Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Goa.
The BJP and its allies won 255 of the 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. In Uttarakhand, the party won 47 seats out of a total of 70.
In Goa, the BJP won 20 of the 40 seats and received support from independent candidates, while in Manipur, the ruling BJP alliance won 31 of the 60 seats.
