Israel Launches Missile Attack At Syria's Damascus: Report

Damascus: According to Syrian state media, Israeli shelling hit a town south of Damascus on Wednesday evening, causing material damage.
This is Israel's second aerial strike on Syria this month, following a strike on anti-aircraft batteries on February 9 in response to a missile fired from Syria.

"The Israeli enemy carried out a strike with several surface-to-surface missiles" from the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights at around 11:35 p.m. (21:35 GMT), according to SANA, citing a military source.

According to a war monitor, the target of Wednesday's shelling was a Syrian army post.

The shelling was directed at a regime military post, according to Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based monitor relies on a large network of insider sources in Syria.

Since the outbreak of civil war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes, targeting government positions as well as Iran-backed forces and Hezbollah fighters.

Israel has stated repeatedly that it wishes to prevent its arch-foe Iran from establishing a presence in Syria.
