Sonia Gandhi Condoles Industrialist Rahul Bajaj's Death, Writes To His Son

Sonia Gandhi, interim president of the Congress, wrote to Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj on Monday to express her condolences on the death of his Padma Bhushan-awardee father Rahul Bajaj.
Mrs Gandhi stated in the letter that she is saddened to learn of the death of Rahul Bajaj, who "added a unique lustre to the world of Indian industry."

"The name Bajaj stood for dependability, fairness, and honesty, and for Indian manufacturing to be among the best in the world. These are the principles and standards upheld by Rahul Bajaj ji, and they are the lasting legacy he leaves "the letter stated. 

She also referred to Rahul Bajaj as a "moral compass" for Indian industries, saying that he must have been "confident that you (Rajiv) would carry forward his work with the same dedication and standards of excellence."


Rahul Bajaj, an industrialist and Padma Bhushan awardee, was laid to rest with full state honours at Pune's Vaikuntha crematorium.

On February 12, Bajaj died at Ruby Hall Hospital in Pune. Last month, he was being treated for cardiac and lung issues.

Rahul Bajaj, who was born on June 10, 1938, earned a Bachelor's degree in economics, a law degree from Mumbai University, and an MBA from Harvard University.

Rahul Bajaj was a former Rajya Sabha member. He was also the chairman of the World Economic Forum's International Business Council.

He was one of corporate India's longest-serving chairmen.

He was twice elected president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He also served as president of the CII from 1979 to 1980 and again from 1999 to 2000.
