Facing backlash over the police investigation in the Alwar rape case, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that his government is willing to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or any other agency if the victim's family wants so.

Accusing the BJP of politicizing the matter, Ashok Gehlot said, "Without worrying about what family members go through when talk around rape happens, the BJP has been indulging in this ugly propaganda in the mentally challenged girl case of Alwar to further political interests, which is extremely condemnable. The state police is doing an independent and impartial inquiry in the matter."

Gehlot stated that the government's intention is to ensure independent investigation so that the truth comes out.

"If even then relative wants any special officer or CID, crime branch, SOG or CBI to investigate this matter, then the state government is ready for that also. The intention of the government is clear that an independent investigation happens in this matter and it brings out the reality of this incident," Gehlot said. Earlier, the victim's sister spoke to India Today and demanded to know why the district administration changed its version."The Alwar Superintendent of Police had earlier mentioned that it's a case of gang rape, but now it claims that there is no evidence to prove rape in the case. Why has the police's version changed?" the victim's sister told India Today.

The victim's maternal uncle told India Today that the family demands a CBI inquiry into the case.

"I had spoken to police officials on the day the girl was found. They had said to me that it was a case of gang rape, but now the police claim that it's not a case of rape. We have no faith left in this government. It has changed its version. We demand CBI inquiry in the case so that truth can come out," he said.
